Marvin Garcia is a visual artist, who specializes in sculpture and mixed media pieces. Originally from L.A., he will be attending his fourth and final year at Santa Clara University in Northern California in the fall.
Fascinated by the mysticism of nature, I make masks and costumes that personify natural phenomena. Recycled fabric, paper, and wood are my preferred media. The universality of these materials establishes a foundation for viewers to relate.
Through rhythmic and methodical processes, I incorporate pattern-work inspired by indigenous clothing, as well as artists like Tara Donovan and Nick Cave. My work gives ordinary media a new identity and encourages the audience to gain an appreciation for the material.
